Meet the founder…

Rana Hussain, a pioneer in the realms of inclusion and belonging, has charted an extraordinary journey through the landscape of sports administration, community engagement, Social Work and the media. With a career marked by a relentless pursuit of positive change and a deep commitment to fostering inclusivity, Rana stands as a powerful advocate for social integration and reduction of discrimination.

Professional Expertise and Leadership Roles

As a Social Worker and in her various Inclusion & Diversity roles across the sports sector (Richmond FC, Cricket Australia, Collingwood FC, Champions of Change to name a few) Rana spearheaded groundbreaking programs, advocating for marginalised and vulnerable communities. Her pioneering initiatives shaped inclusive policies, educational programs, and effective storytelling approaches.

Rana's experience in high-performance and elite sports revealed a vital truth: good team culture and inclusive leadership are the cornerstones of achieving excellence, whether on the field or in the boardroom. She firmly believes that cohesive and inclusive teams, guided by leaders valuing diversity and fostering a sense of belonging, are the ones that ultimately deliver peak performance.

An Advocate and Influencer

With the popular mantra you can’t be what you can’t see resonating deeply, Rana worked hard to be the change she wanted to see in the media. You'd often find her on TV, radio, or in newspapers, using her voice to spread positive messages and by her very presence challenging the way things usually are in Australian media.

But Rana's commitment to diversity and inclusion doesn't stop there. She's been involved in important committees, offered advice as a consultant, and worked on various projects that stand up for inclusion, diversity, and human rights. Writing and speaking a lot, her insights have been shared in big-name publications like The Guardian and The Age.

Continuing her mission to create a bigger impact, Rana started Good.Human, bringing all the facets of her work together in one place: Expertise, Advocacy and Impact. It's a movement focused on changing people's lives, cultures, and leadership all over the country. What makes her stand out is her knack for turning complicated ideas into simple, practical steps for positive change. She believes in making knowledge easy to understand and use to make the world a better place.

Integrated and Personal Leadership

Rana's life is significantly shaped by her Islamic faith and her life as the child of Indian migrants growing up in the suburban west of Melbourne. Growing up with a mix of cultures, she deeply understands the value and challenge this brings.

This personal journey strongly influences her work, adding a genuine touch and empathy. Rana doesn’t just know this work, she’s lived it - good and bad. Embracing difference and making diversity work is infused in everything she does.

Collaboration is key for Rana. She knows that real and lasting change happens when we work together. Actively seeking diverse perspectives, she combines her extensive network and practical knowledge to build an inclusive and understanding society.

Rana knows 'Good.Human' isn't about being perfect. She sees herself as a messy human, just like all of us. She believes in recognising and appreciating each other's humanity, with all its imperfections. Good.Human is an invitation to celebrate our shared humanity, supporting one another through life's ups and downs, aiming to build a world where everyone feels valued and included as they are. Rana's vision is a more inclusive and brighter future for all.
